Are you considering joining Heritage Defense but are confused about what the difference is between Heritage Defense and Home School Legal Defense Association (HSLDA)?
Or are you already a member with HSLDA and wonder if membership with Heritage Defense would be redundant or unnecessary?
If you have wondered these things, you are not alone. We get these questions all the time.
While Heritage Defense is not affiliated with or endorsed by HSLDA, we are extremely grateful for the heroic work of HSLDA and others in securing and safeguarding the right to homeschool and helping families navigate the homeschooling process.
However, HSLDA’s focus is on defending the parental right to home educate. So for child protective services (CPS) matters related to medical decisions, child discipline, and other non-homeschooling issues, HSLDA does not commit to assisting beyond initial contacts with CPS.
Heritage Defense complements the work of HSLDA by picking up where they leave off to cover those non-homeschooling CPS matters for the whole case, including representation in court.
Our friend Israel Wayne, explains why he is a member of both HSLDA and Heritage Defense:
“My wife and I are lifetime members of HSLDA. We love what they do. We support their work.
“But attacks on parental rights can be multifaceted. You may have a false accusation of child abuse that's misplaced by a neighbor or a vindictive relative or something like that.
“You may have a situation where your child has sensitive medical needs and you as a parent feel the need to make certain medical decisions that perhaps people within the medical establishment question and they challenge your parental rights on that level.”
“That's where Heritage Defense is specialized. That's where they shine is in defending families against false accusations of child abuse or child neglect or some of these issues. I am myself a member of both organizations. I'm really excited that Heritage Defense has stepped in to fill a gap that's been long needed within the Christian community.”
In fact, many of our members are members of both organizations. As another of our members explains:
“We joined because we wanted extra protection beyond what other homeschool organizations provided. Being a member of Heritage Defense gave us the peace that someone was watching our back as we raised our family in a Christian manner.”
These families also see the tremendous value in joining Heritage Defense so that they have experienced attorneys to call when a social worker is at the door for some reason other than homeschooling.
To get peace of mind for these issues, become a member of Heritage Defense today.
Membership is only $19 a month or $190 a year.
