Jeffrey and Angela Fisher* were roused from their sleep close to midnight by a knock at the door. It was a CPS investigator accompanied by a law enforcement officer.

The investigator said there had been a report of an incident among the children from 5 years ago that had never been previously reported. But the incident she mentioned Jeffrey and Angela had reported themselves when it happened. It had been investigated by CPS five years earlier and CPS had closed it.

Jeffrey immediately called the Heritage Defense 24/7 urgent line and reached an attorney. The Heritage Defense attorney spoke with the social worker. She said she could not find the previous investigation in their records. She said that she wanted to come in and for the officer to interview the children. The Heritage Defense attorney declined entry to the home and to the children, who were asleep. The attorney encouraged the CPS investigator to check their records again. The social worker and the officer left.

The next morning, Heritage Defense involved a local attorney, whose fees were paid by Heritage Defense. The local attorney contacted the family and then interacted with CPS.

About a week later, CPS contacted the local attorney and informed him that they would be closing the case. They had found the record of their previous investigation that had cleared the Fishers of any abuse or neglect.

 The attorney immediately called Jeffrey and Angela and told them of the good news, saying they should receive a case closing letter from CPS shortly. Jeffrey and Angela were extremely grateful to the attorney and Heritage Defense for taking such swift action and standing by their side.

Heritage Defense closed the case, telling the Fishers not to hesitate to call them again should they be contacted by CPS.
