Scott and Crystal* had been experiencing some rough patches in their marriage; they had been seeing a marriage counselor, and things had been progressing well.

That, however, was about to change when the counselor heard something they did not like.

Crystal was having a one-on-one session with the counselor when the topic of child discipline came up.

Crystal revealed that they do spank as a form of child discipline, but always reasonably and only when absolutely necessary. Upon hearing this, the counselor told Crystal that they were going to report her and Scott to Child Protective Services.

Crystal was confused and quickly left, her mind racing on what she should do. She remembered Heritage Defense and quickly called using the 24/7 Emergency Hotline.

Her call was quickly answered, and she was connected with an attorney.

Our attorney then gave Crystal some recommendations to prepare and advised that we would get a local attorney involved.

We swiftly contacted one of our local attorneys near Scott and Crystal, who promptly reached out.

The local attorney then immediately called CPS and left a message stating that he would be representing Scott and Crystal.

CPS never responded.

Days went by as the local attorney reached out regularly to CPS and checked in with Scott and Crystal. The local attorney left the CPS investigator multiple text messages and emails, but never received a response.

After several months, Heritage Defense closed the case. We advised Scott and Crystal that if they ever heard from CPS regarding this case, we would reopen it immediately.
