10-month-old Hunter, who had spent his entire life in foster care, was finally reunited with his parents after a judge ruled that their limited cognitive abilities did not make them unfit to parent.

Ever since he was born, Hunter, the son of Amy and Eric, lived in foster homes, separated from his parents. The state argued that because of Eric and Amy’s limited cognitive abilities (both of their IQs were below average, which allegedly led to numerous “deficiencies”), they were unable to safely parent young Hunter.

Circuit Judge Bethany Flint disagreed, stating that, “There is no allegation that they’re not able to meet his basic needs” and that the alleged threat that Hunter faced was “fairly amorphous.” So Judge Flint allowed Amy and Eric to take Hunter home.
