Member Story: Family defies doctors’ orders?

When the Nocona* family had to take their son with disabilities to the hospital, the only thing on their minds was his health and wellbeing. Yet hasty actions by the hospital quickly gave them even more causes for concern.

Due to a misunderstanding, hospital staff assumed the Noconas were not following the doctors’ guidance and immediately reported them to CPS. In fact, Mr. and Mrs. Nocona agreed with and had been strictly following all the doctors’ advice. That did not seem to matter.

When they realized what the hospital had done, as members of Heritage Defense, the Noconas immediately called our 24/7 hotline and were connected with an attorney. The attorney quickly calmed their fears and walked them through what they should do.

Initially, CPS was extremely demanding of the family, pushing to intrude into their lives unnecessarily. However, the Heritage Defense local attorney pushed back. Ultimately, after he provided documents showing that the Naconas were following the doctors’ advice, CPS backed off and closed the case.
