Member Story: It was a normal afternoon. Then, CPS knocked on the door.

It was a normal Monday afternoon when Mrs. Pinkston* heard a knock on the door. It was a child protective services (CPS) investigative social worker. Then Mrs. Pinkston opened the door, the social worker immediately informed her that a report had been made against her to child protective services.

The social worker was extremely confrontational and demanding. She began reading Mrs. Pinkston a list of what CPS wanted to do, including interviewing all of the children and conducting an inspection of the home. Mrs. Pinkston politely interrupted the social worker and said, “Excuse me one moment while I get my attorney on the phone.” She stepped back inside, closed the door, and immediately called the Heritage Defense 24/7 hotline.

After speaking to one of the Heritage Defense attorneys, Mrs. Pinkston again opened the door. Simply informing the social worker that an attorney was involved completely changed the social workers demeanor. She became much friendlier and less demanding. She gave Mrs. Pinkston her information and then left.

Heritage Defense completely handled the case from that point on and the Pinkston family did not see or hear from CPS again until they were informed that the case was closed.

The Pinkston family shares their thoughts on the experience:

“I was quite flabbergasted when CPS showed up at our door in the middle of a Monday afternoon. The caseworker started immediately informing me that they had an open case against us and telling me everything she needed to do such as “interview the children”. I informed her that I would be calling my lawyer and immediately followed the steps that Heritage Defense had outlined for us as a member. Once I came back to the door, the caseworkers demeanor had completely changed, and she was much friendlier and less confrontational. We got her information and then she left. Heritage Defense handled everything from then on and we didn’t have to see or talk with her again until she showed back up two and a half months later to tell us they were closing the case. We have never lived in fear of CPS, but we have always planned for it, and Heritage Defense is one of those ways to plan that just makes sense. Our peace of mind comes from God but it certainly helps to have a knowledgeable and like minded resource in our *literal* back pocket to assist us in dealing with such a powerful agency. If you aren’t a member yet, don’t delay! It truly is an unfortunate necessity in today’s world to help navigate the murky waters of dealing with the government. Thank you!”
