Member Story: Our neighbor reported us to CPS

When vindictive neighbors filed a false report with Child Protective Services, Steven and Rebecca Timpson found themselves facing an invasive investigation. They turned to Heritage Defense to protect their parental rights during the stressful ordeal.

Steven and Rebecca Timpson had been experiencing significant problems with their neighbors for quite some time. The disagreements began several months earlier when the neighbors told Steven and Rebecca that they needed to trim some of the trees on their property. Steven did not feel that the tree trimming was necessary and communicated this to the neighbors.

Ever since this disagreement, the Timpson’s neighbors had been regularly causing trouble. The incidents ranged from the neighbors randomly filming Steven and Rebecca’s children while they were outside playing, to doing burnouts on their grass, to falsely reporting them to several different government agencies.

The situation between the two families reached a climax when the neighbors filed a report against Steven and Rebecca with Child Protective Services. Steven and Rebecca’s first notice of this report came when a woman knocked on their front door.

Steven and Rebecca tell the rest of the story themselves:

When we first heard about Heritage Defense, we dragged our feet on joining for a couple of years because of the cost of the membership.

But after dealing with CPS, the cost that it saved us was worth it.

I told my husband, “This is how much we’ve paid in membership fees, and this is how much an attorney bill would have been.” Not only did we get our money’s worth, but we got more than that.

I worked for an attorney before I had kids and before I got married, so I know how much attorneys can cost. I do not think people understand how much an attorney can actually cost.

From the start, as soon as we started having problems with our neighbor, I told myself, “I’m so glad I have Heritage Defense because I feel like they’re going to call CPS on this at some point.”

When we saw the state coming down the road to our house, we called Heritage Defense and were able to get an attorney on the phone immediately. I mean, it was like immediately. I didn’t even answer the door before I had an attorney on the phone. And this was after hours on a Friday after 6 PM.

The attorney immediately knew when CPS first showed up that they had falsified something since they came after hours on a Friday to my house. You guys had answers to every question. You were able to anticipate questions before they came because you have so much experience and know how to deal with CPS.

Of course, the allegations were ridiculous. One was that our kids were hanging out of high windows, but we have a one-story home.

To be a part of an organization whose sole purpose is to defend our parental rights. It’s the biggest peace of mind that I have.

I never spoke to CPS without feeling like you guys had my back the entire time. I feel like CPS got the message that these guys are not messing around. We never spoke to CPS without our attorneys, and the attorneys were so smart and experienced. We felt like our attorneys were so much smarter than whatever silliness CPS was going to try to pull. All pressure was taken off of us because the attorney communicated with CPS for us.

And other people being members is why our case was paid for. It was not just us, but everyone else, other homeschooling families who are Heritage Defense members, who paid for our case.

We tell other people that they need this, look what it did for us. I would absolutely recommend becoming a member of Heritage Defense to every homeschooling Christian family. You never know. You just never know. And in fact, I think as Christians, we should come to expect it that we’d never know. We should come to expect this kind of behavior, and we have rights.
