Member Story: Our church secretary reported us.

To Angela Lyndon*, that Thursday afternoon seemed no different from most others. She was out running a quick errand while her three children, Logan (15), Noah (14), and Mia (5), were home doing schoolwork.
Everything seemed to be perfectly normal to Angela until her phone rang. She did not recognize the caller ID and, upon answering, was surprised to find out it was her local police department.
She was even more shocked when she realized what the call was about. The officer on the opposite end of the line informed her that their oldest son had been accused of being inappropriate toward someone in their homeschool support group.
Angela was shocked at what the officer told her, knowing the accusation was completely false. She told the officer that she was not home and would call him back when she got back to her house. The officer said the report had come through CPS. Hanging up with the officer, she immediately called the Heritage Defense 24/7 emergency hotline. After explaining the situation, she was promptly connected with an attorney.
While relaying the circumstances to the attorney, Angela began to put the pieces together. She told the attorney that there was a mom in their homeschool group who wanted them to leave, and she suspected that she was reporting them to CPS as a way to harass them and get them kicked out. The attorney told Angela not to call the police back until they could get a local attorney involved.
Heritage Defense speedily contacted a local attorney in the Lyndons’ area who then called Angela. She told the local attorney that she was sure the mom in her homeschool group, who was also the church secretary, had reported them. The local attorney asked Angela if she had considered leaving the homeschool group, to which she replied that they were already planning on leaving both the homeschool group and the church.
Angela then gave the local attorney the latest update—the police department had just contacted her again to tell her they were not interested in investigating the case further. The reason given was that they had received a letter from CPS alerting them to the situation but felt there was no reason to continue the investigation.
Thinking this was strange, the local attorney said he would call CPS to find out if they were moving forward with the investigation. He called CPS multiple times and left several messages, but CPS never returned his calls. He then called Heritage Defense and told them that CPS was not returning his calls.
Surprised by this odd turn of events, the Heritage Defense attorney called Angela and told her that it sounded like CPS did not want to deal with the attorney. He told Angela that Heritage Defense would close the case on their end and that it was unlikely that she would hear from CPS again, but if so, she should call Heritage Defense immediately.
Relieved, Angela thanked both attorneys for their hard work on the matter. “I’m really glad I have this membership. It’s one of those things you really pray you don’t have to use, but CPS has always been one of my biggest fears. I’ve recommended Heritage Defense to six of my friends.” “I am grateful for you guys. I cannot believe this happened. I am incredibly thankful you helped us so quickly, and I will never cancel our membership.”
