Unsupervised

Can your child be legally left at home without a babysitter or other supervision? A few states have specific laws on the subject. Some others have recommended guidelines. Most have no guidance at all. Every state prohibits child neglect, but that can be vague. Without a clear legal answer, you have to carefully decide what is best considering things like a child's age, maturity level, and ability to deal with emergencies; number of children; time of day; how long a parent is gone; or how far away a parent is from the child. Scroll down to learn about the laws and policies in your state.
